Hurray For Dads!
Dad. Papa. Itay. Daddy. There are many ways we call our fathers and it may not even be in this list because it is of a more personal nature for you! Truth of the matter is in today’s more complicated world, fathers play more diversified responsibilities more than ever where parental roles have gone topsy-turvy due to the phenomenon of overseas workers!
Historically, Sonora Smart Dodd is credited by Ripley’s Believe It or Not! as the originator of Father’s Day. She is often referred to as the “Mother of Father’s Day”. It started way back in June of 1910 when she heard of a Mother’s Day Sermon at a Central United Methodist Church in Spokane, Washington in1909. Having been raised alone in a farm by her father with 4 other brothers when her mother died when she was only 16 years old, Dodd proposed that fathers should receive equal recognition as well and from then on the celebration of Father’s Day held every 3rd Sunday of June which was proclaimed and signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1966 has grown to what it is today around the world 104 years later!
Surely, you would want to give something back to your dad, papa, itay or daddy as a token of your love and respect or even reverence. How about a gift, a simple lunch or dinner, or that much deserved rest or vacation even if it’s just for a day? It need not be expensive; after all, most say it’s the thought that counts!
