Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+: Beyond the Screen Size Upgrade
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge is undeniably the best Samsung device to date. It is the unit with the most recognizable design. As far as competition and development goes, we had a feeling that the Galaxy S6 Edge was not the final form of this flagship device. Samsung took a page from Apple Inc’s playbook and as rumors claim, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge’s latest version will be known as the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus.
On paper, the new Samsung device will be formally written as Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+. In fact, Samsung has filed to trademark the name “S6 EDGE+” on June 26 of this year. There is no final decision but for formalities and desired outcome, the S6 EDGE was officially announced with a ‘+’ sign last August 14 (Philippines time)
Why are we giving emphasis on a seemingly trivial aspect? The main reason is: the name may lead to serious trademark case against Apple Inc. Though Apple is not the only company that has used the term “Plus”, as Samsung is also not the first manufacturer to use the symbol ‘+’ to signify development that can be easily observable on the physical level. By that we mean—the size.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge + has a 5.7″ screen display. It is a considerable jump from 5.1″ screen dimension on the S6 Edge. It will retain the curved screen transition but will now have a bigger work space. Along with the bigger screen is better display of up to 1440p or what the industry calls as ‘QHD’ (Quad High Definition). Step by step, this development in image and motion resolution indicates that in the distant future, Smartphones could support the 4096×2160 resolution we now enjoy on digital cinemas.
For the chipset, the S6 Edge+ has retained the Exynos 7420 chipset. Samsung claims that Exynos chipset requires less power to operate compared Qualcomm and Mediatek chipsets. The S6 Edge+ will finally have a 4 GB RAM. Completing the processing system is will be an Octa-core CPU made up of a combined Quad-core ARM cortex A-53 clocked at 1.5 GHz and a Quad-core Cortex-A57 performing at 2.1 GHz. This will be accompanied by Mali-T760MP8 graphics processor.
The camera MP rating is preserved at 16MP for primary back and 5MP for front shutter. With the upgrade in size, S6 Edge + will need a better battery. The S6 Edge has a battery rating of 2600. to compensate for the bigger display, you are looking at a device with 3000 mAh battery to last the same duration as its S6 Edge predecessor.
This will be on sale globally on August 22, 2015 (Philippines time). According to trusted sources, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ price here in the Philippines can go as high as P40,000.00 and it will be available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB models.
